Take a cable car to a height of 2,700 meters, walk on a suspension bridge over a chasm almost 1,000 meters deep, take a photo on the “Stairway to nothingness” platform, play snowballs in July, touch a real glacier (just not with your tongue, please! 🙂 , and even get inside the glacier in the galleries cut in the thousand-year-old ice to see ice sculptures in the middle of summer. This trip is simply packed with interesting experiences that you can get in just one day! And we will visit the lake with the trout farm! But not just to look at the fish, but also to have lunch in one of the best fish restaurants in Austria.

After several hours of driving along the autobahn, we will reach the Dachstein panoramic road. We will climb it by car to the lower station of the cable car and go in a spacious cabin the size of a bus to a height of 2700 meters, where there is snow even in summer! If we are lucky, we will ride on a special open platform on the roof of the cabin, where nothing (not even glass) prevents us from contemplating the beauty of the Dachstein mountains. In 2013, it was the world’s first cable car cabin with such an open area. At the top, we will visit the observation platform Dachstein Skywalk, from which in good weather you can see all the highest mountains of Austria and even Mount Mangart, on the border of Slovenia and Italy, 110 km from here. Through a wobbly suspension bridge with a transparent mesh floor, we descend to the observation deck Stairway to Nothingness. The bridge and platform hang over the steep southern slope of the Dachstein massif, so it’s a good place to tickle your nerves if you’re even slightly afraid of heights.)

Next, you will have to dress warmer, a jacket and a hat will come in handy when we go to the galleries of the Ice Palace cut right in the Dachstein glacier, which has been lying here for thousands of years. Some of the sculptures there are completely transparent, made of pure water, but, in my opinion, the most interesting are those carved directly from the glacier and bearing traces of historical geological events that took place a long time ago. Such sculptures have stripes of bubbles, pure ice and particles of rock on them, which together form a texture similar to marble. After the Ice Palace, we will go for a walk on the glacier on the surface, where even in summer there is snow, and the surrounding landscapes resemble landscapes of distant planets covered with snow and mountains.

After descending from the mountain by cable car, we will head to Lake Steirischer Bodensee, we will get there by another panoramic road, the second for this day. There is a great restaurant on the lake near the trout farm. It offers a choice of several delicious trout dishes. Fried, smoked or grilled, choose which fish you like more. After lunch, we will take a walk by the lake and head back. In the evening I will bring you to your hotel or home.

How to order and pay for a trip?

After agreeing on the date of transfer, I will send you the details for the reservation payment (100 €). It can be paid to an IBAN account, by card payment request or PayPal request. The rest of the amount (350 €) is paid by card or cash on the day of the transfer, at the time of departure.

The reservation payment can be refunded in full up to 48 hours before the start of the trip at your request. In certain cases reservation payment can be refunded upon application no later than 12 hours before the start of the trip.

Is it possible to make a reservation without payment?

Yes, it is possible. But without reservation payment, I do not guarantee that you will go on that day. If another person shows up, and this person is ready to book that day and pay for the reservation, he/she will go, but you will not. Paying for your reservation is a guarantee to me that you are serious about your intentions, and to you it is a guarantee that your chosen date will not be booked by someone else.

Can I go with children?

A round trip lasts about 14 hours, half of which is on the road. The route runs along mountain roads and not all children tolerate such trips well. Therefore, this trip is suitable for children from six years of age. For the safety of your child, there is a booster seat, it is mandatory for children up to 145 cm tall in Austria.

Where to have lunch?

There is a wonderful restaurant with local cuisine nearby Kölnbrein dam. You can also bring your own food (sandwiches or something else) if you don’t want to dine in the restaurant or follow a special diet.

Important! (be sure to read)

Breakfast.
You can have breakfast before leaving or we can stop at a gas station and you can have breakfast in the cafe located there. We will stop by at a convenient time for you on the way to the mountains. You can also take sandwiches with you and have breakfast at the gas station. Don’t stay hungry in the morning, lunch is not soon.)

Clothes and shoes.
For the Ice Palace, you must have a jacket designed for +5…+15 and a winter hat (beanie hat) and pants (or jeans). Shorts are not allowed. It is advisable to have a change of shoes in case you get your feet wet in the snow. The best clothes for a trip are those in which you will be comfortable. Take such clothes that you can put on something extra if it’s cold, or take off and leave in the car if it’s hot. Any unnecessary things can be left in the car, in the trunk. Shoes should be comfortable, preferably sneakers, be ready to walk about 5-7 km per day. You can take your umbrellas or use mine (there are 3 in the car) if it rains.

Motion sickness.
If you know that you have motion sickness – be sure to take special tablets according to their instructions before the trip. They are cheap, but very effective and will help you not to spoil your trip.

It is forbidden to eat in the car.
If you want to have a snack on the way, we can stop at the nearest gas station where there are comfortable tables. By ordering a transfer, you agree not to consume food inside the vehicle during the entire trip.

Safety belts.
Your safety and mine are important to me, so the use of seat belts is mandatory for ALL passengers during the trip. By ordering a transfer, you agree to use safety belts during the entire trip.

Take cash with you for additional expenses, it is not always possible to pay by card.

Do not forget your passports and other permits at the hotel/home, they should ALWAYS be with you!!!

Comfort during the trip

The car has two-zone climate control, you will not be cold or hot in any weather. On the way, you can charge your phone from the car’s power grid. There are also umbrellas, blankets and free bottled still water. If on the way you need to stop at a pharmacy, supermarket, toilet, have a snack or drink coffee – just tell me during the trip and I will find the nearest place. If you are traveling with luggage, several huge suitcases will fit into the trunk with a volume of 605 liters. Upon agreement, I can take you to the city center, train station, bus station or airport after the transfer.
